1 Corinthians 7:1-2
Now for the matters you wrote about: "It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman." But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband.
Many people are confused by our passage today as Paul begins by saying, "It is good to not have sexual relationships, then immediately counters that thought with an opposing instruction: "...each man should have sexual relations with his own wife, and each woman with her own husband." So what's right? I think the answer is found later when Paul will explain that some people have a "gift" and therefore don't have the need or desire for physical intimacy. However, for everyone else (myself included), marriage is God's plan for avoiding sexual immorality. It is the way God has provided for us to satisfy our natural sexual desires while strengthening both husband and wife against temptation.
Sex outside of marriage is immoral; however, the sexual bond between husband and wife within marriage is a gift from God. Has your marriage been blessed by this special God-given intimacy? Is there anything holding you back? If so, Paul has some specific instruction as we continue on in Chapter 7.
