“Standing Firm”

1 Corinthians 15:1

Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand.

Thoughts for Today:

There are three primary ingredients necessary for anyone to experience the victorious life that Jesus provided:

1. The Gospel must be proclaimed. (Romans 10:14: "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?")

2. The Gospel has to be received by faith. (Ephesians 2:8: "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.")

3. Believers must continue to stand in the freedom that Christ purchased. (Galatians 5:1: "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.")

Two of the three won't work; all must be present; and it's an all or nothing provision. Either we are standing firm on the Gospel we heard or we're not. The Gospel cannot and will not be adjusted to fit into human ideas.

Questions to Ponder:

Have you weakened or compromised some of the tenets of your faith? What does the Bible say? Will you stand firm, or adjust the Word of God to fit modern thinking? Which approach do you think will ultimately prove correct?
