1 Corinthians 16:7
I do not want to see you now and make only a passing visit; I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits.
Paul's plan was to spend the winter in Corinth before traveling on to Jerusalem. However, he adds a very important phrase: "...if the Lord permits."
Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us: "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." So it is wise whenever we say, "This is the day or week I've planned, but Lord, You may interrupt it at anytime and in any way You want."
I always find if I go through my day with an expectation that I might be divinely interrupted, then my attitude is positive and my outlook joyful. Even when the unexpected occurs and I am forced to adjust my plan to accommodate the Lord's. However, if I'm interrupted on a day in which my schedule is tight and my thinking too rigid -- look out! I won't be happy. The key? For me it is to always expect the unexpected, and to be adaptable to changing circumstances and newly discovered needs. That way I am flexible, moldable, and useable by the Lord.
How rigid is your plan for the week? Is it open to adjustment by the Lord? Are your eyes open to the needs of His people? Do you have blinders on? Will you allow the Lord to change your focus?
