“You Are Our Rejoicing!”

2 Corinthians 1:14

...as you have understood us in part, you will come to understand fully that you can boast of us just as we will boast of you in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Thoughts for Today:

The King James Version of our passage today reads: "As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus." I like that: "You are our rejoicing." Paul had a wonderful ability to not only see people for the fleshly, sinful creatures that they were. But, also what they would be by the work of the Holy Spirit.

Paul was a shepherd who knew there were wolves and false apostles out to devour the most unsuspecting and innocent of the flock. And he would hold nothing back when it came to dealing with those types of people. But when it came to believers, he had a heart big enough to allow him to see them in the best possible light. That is why he could say, "You are our boast." In other words, the Corinthians, regardless of their flaws, were a treasure to him. Why? Because he saw Christ in them.

Questions to Ponder:

All too often, we see each other in our fleshly and sinful natures. We point out the flaws, the inconsistencies, and the hypocrisies. Paul told the truth, but it was tempered with love, and a heart wise and insightful enough to see the on-going work of the Spirit. Do you? Do you see the work of the Spirit in those around you, or do you only see the errors, defects and missteps? What is God trying to show you? Will you see His children through His eyes?
