“"A New Creation in Christ"”

2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

Thoughts for Today:

There are many verses in the Bible that are near and dear to my heart and our passage today would definitely be on my "Top Ten List". In fact, I think it would be on a lot of Christians' lists. I can't tell you how many times I have heard people tell their salvation stories and quote this verse: "The old has gone, the new is here. I am a new creation in Christ!"

The problem is we don't always feel like a new creation. Often times we feel trapped in these same old bodies of death. So what does it mean "the new creation has come"? When we trusted Christ and accepted Him as Lord and Savior, He assured us that our sin is forgiven, we would not come under judgment, and instead pass from death into eternal life. This makes us a new creation. We no longer belong to the old creation that fell in the way of Adam. Instead, as the new creation we stand in Jesus -- and we are in Him when we place our confidence on Him. Certainly, we remain susceptible to temptation and can fall in many ways. However, our victory lies in Christ's redemption of our sin whether past, present or future. As a result, we are a new creation in Him!

Questions to Ponder:

Many times Christians fall to temptation and then have difficulty recovering. The lie of Satan is always the same: "How could you call yourself a Christian and behave that way? You must not be saved." But just because we are a new creation doesn't mean we can't fall to temptation. The good news is we have already been forgiven. Will you turn from your sin right now? Will you let go of the guilt and accept the grace and mercy of the One who gave His life for you?
