“Accepting God's Truth”

Romans 15:8

For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs...

Thoughts for Today:

My family tree traces its lineage back to England and France, with a small part of American Indian thrown into the mix. During the age of the patriarchs -- Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob -- my ancestors were running around in the forests of the European and North American continents. I'm pretty sure they were not promised anything directly by God. Not so the Jews.

In our passage today, Paul tells us, "Christ became a servant of the Jews". The King James uses similar wording: "Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision". Both reflect two parts of the same concept: first, Christ came to the Jews to prove God's word can be trusted ("...on behalf of God's truth"); and second, He will faithfully make good on all of His promises ("to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs"). Simply put, in Jesus Christ, every promise God made to the Jews -- was, is, and will be -- fulfilled.

Questions to Ponder:

Most non-Christian Jews continue to wait expectantly for God to fulfill His promises not realizing He has already done so. Isn't that a bit like you and me? For what are you waiting that God has already given you in Christ? Peace, joy, rest, reconciliation, or abundance? The Bible tells us all of this is found in Jesus -- not in the future, but right here and now. Will you accept God's truth?
