“Our Life is Our Witness”

Romans 15:18a

I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me in leading the Gentiles to obey God...

Thoughts for Today:

Basically Paul is saying, "I will not take credit for the work done among the Gentiles by others. I certainly can't take credit for the Day of Pentecost (it was the beginning of the ministry which resulted in the Gospel going to the Gentiles). I can't even claim the first Gentile convert (it was Peter who first took the Gospel to the home of the Centurion Cornelius)." Instead Paul says, "I will only speak of those things which Christ accomplished through me." In other words, his first-hand, up-close, personal experiences of what the Lord has done through him by grace.

We can learn a lot from Paul's example. His point in our passage today is the power of our own personal testimony. (The Lord speaking to Paul in Acts 22:15: "You will be his witness to all people of what you have seen and heard.") I have found, non-believers are more interested in the tangible difference Christ has made in our lives than in our words. Just like Paul, the way God's Word has changed us personally is the real evidence of His truth. I think it is also why so many people have difficulty sharing their faith. There is a lack of change in their internal or external behavior when compared to the world. Why should someone believe in Christ if there is no evidence of God's love in the life of His follower's? What's the benefit?

Questions to Ponder:

What has God accomplished through you? What about in you? How has Christ in you, changed the person you used to be? Is there a tangible difference? If not, then it would be wise to let the Holy Spirit speak to you about how He would conform you into the image of Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:4: "The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." Is the light of the Gospel shining in your life? It is not too late. Our life is our witness.
