1 Corinthians 12:29d
Do all work miracles?
In Acts 2:22, Peter spoke to the crowd following the coming of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost: "Fellow Israelites, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know."
The Greek word translated as "accredited" is "APODEIKNYMI" which means "to declare, to show, to prove what kind of person anyone is, to prove by arguments, demonstrate" (Strong's Lexicon). Peter was saying that God Himself provided the witness and authenticity of the identity of Jesus by the miracles He performed through Him. I guess we might ask the question today: If Jesus needed miraculous signs to prove His Words, then how much more so do we? Over and over, the Bible tells us that miracles and wonders are important to evangelism.
Jeremiah 32:20: "You performed signs and wonders in Egypt and have continued them to this day, in Israel and among all mankind, and have gained the renown that is still yours." God uses signs, wonders and miracles to "prove" the renown. Prominence, fame and honor remains His alone. No less so today.
Paul asked the Galatians (Galatians 3:5): "So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?" In other words, when we are used by God, it isn't because we are special or deserving. It is only by God's grace that He uses any of us. However, it is our faith in the grace of God that allows miracles to flow through us. Do you want to experience miracles? Will you allow God to direct your thoughts and actions? Will you allow Him to move in the miraculous through you?
